I live locally on Dartmoor in Manaton where I work with linocut and screen printing producing landscape prints of iconic and well loved land marks. I am fascinated by the vast variety of character in our British countryside and have found inspiration particularly in the treasured landscapes of our National Parks and on our beautiful coastlines. Dartmoor has been the source for many of my images.
To create my images I add multilayer colour blocks by hand screen printing. These prints are then overprinted by hand with my linocut using a black Japanese sumi ink. The ink is glossy and textural and is in high contrast to the flat matt screen colour below. It prints each time with variations in the black inked lines giving individual and unique final artwork.
At the Lustleigh Show I will able to show the process of linocutting through demonstration on my stand. I also have developed a range of life-style products, including a Dartmoor collection, using my print images consisting of fine bone china mugs and tankards, tea towels and greeting cards. These are all British-made and I decorate and fire the mugs and tankards myself at home.
I love the thought that my artwork can create something that is to be used; something very tangible, to be held and enjoyed.
