Leanne Crawford is a locally based (South Devon) textile designer maker, focusing on felt making and sewing.
I started in April 2016 and have two elements to my business – finished products and supplies.
For my own handmade products I try and source materials locally wherever possible, include fleece from local farms for hand dyeing fibres. I use a mix of wet and needle felting techniques for many of my products, and hand sew with flat felt for picture panels and ‘felties’.
I have my own range of craft kits, both designed and produced by myself. I have both wet and needle felting kits available and am designing several others which will be completed in the coming months. These include a new range of needle felt fairy kits.
I also have felt based sewing kits for making hoop pictures, and ‘felties’ (hanging felt ornaments) of various designs, from woodland creatures to cultural symbols.
For my finished products I will have a number of accessories and homeware items, from scarves and brooches to cushion covers and picture.
I also have a range of handmade notebooks and journals – these incorporate my own photographs taken around Devon on the covers. Felt making is growing in popularity, however I always strive to make items that are unique and different from others. There are examples of my work on my website.
For some events I also have a range of ethically sourced fair trade products. These are carefully chosen to complement my own range of products and are handmade felt and textile items such as hanging decorations, flowers and jute bags.
In addition to selling and designing products, I run workshops in Devon to introduce and teach people the skill of wet and needle felting. I will be promoting these at all events this year.
