Edge of Dartmoor – Handmade Felt

Dartmoor Wool Felted Soap & Artworks – Made in Devon

About Edge of Dartmoor – Handmade Felt…

Caroline Stoyle is a fibre artist who lives in South Brent on the edge of Dartmoor,
her work is inspired by the legends, atmosphere and changing colours of the moors.

Recent projects have been three dimensional artworks of Nun’s Cross House, the tors of Dartmoor, Postbridge and the streams and rivers of the moors. She also creates realistic and cartoon interpretations of sheep, hares, otters and even the Beast of Dartmoor in picture and sculpture form. Her current obsession is with the fungi and mosses to be found in her surrounding areas and she is in the process of interpreting these in framed original pictures and 3d artwork.

After doing a work placement in her teens with a weaver, she has always had an interest in spinning and processing wool.

Coming from a family of artists, she is lucky to have their support and encouragement and has loved making and creating various things for sale over the years including hats and children’s clothing when she owned her own shop.

Since recently retiring, she has rediscovered her love of all things wooly!
This started after buying her husband a needle felting kit for Christmas which sat in the cupboard until finally being used
by her. This started an adventure with selling her small animal sculptures and pictures at craft fairs.

She uses sustainable locally sourced wool wherever possible and loves the challenge of upcycling found objects by incorporating them into her work to add interest.
